Brene Brown At TED on Vulnerability And Numbing Emotions

Brene Brown At TED on Vulnerability And Numbing EmotionsThis video of Brene Brown speaking at a recent TED conference is a must see!  In this speech, she talks about vulnerability and how we are really living in a vulnerable world.  However, we tend to numb our vulnerability in this world and we do it through spending (debt), overeating (obesity), addictions (alcohol, drugs, etc) or through medications.

She makes a point in her speech to state that we cannot selectively numb emotion.  You can’t go through life saying, I don’t want to feel the bad stuff, and only allow yourself to feel the good stuff.  In fact, if you numb yourself to all the bad feelings and emotions in your life, than you will not be able to feel other emotions such as joy, gratitude, and happiness.  Many people often try to portray this, but if you look below the surface illusion of that person, you’ll see the person numbing emotions.
